math tutorAll tutoring sessions are held at our facility in Houston, where we provide one-on-one instruction within a quiet environment. Sessions for any academic subject can be scheduled for any day or evening of the week, including weekends. There is no predefined number of sessions required and students attend Educere Tutoring only as often as needed. Tutoring sessions can begin anytime of the year – especially important for students who have been absent for an extended period.

Our Procedures in Teaching Sessions

We start by working on homework that is due the next day, or by preparing for the next day’s exam. This gives immediate benefit and reduces anxiety. While working on the immediate need, our tutors learn what the student’s deficiencies. The student gets experience in needed skills during the course of finishing homework, and our tutor indirectly diagnoses the student’s needs, without spending time on a separate diagnostic exam. We set aside some of the hour’s tutoring time to work on specific skills.

In SAT and ACT preparation some tutors specialize in the math parts, and other tutors specialize in the verbal, reading comprehension and essay parts. Again, we do not usually start with a diagnostic test. Our tutors put a few sample questions at a time in front of the student and have the student work the questions out loud, so that our tutors can hear the student’s analysis and reasoning. If the student works a problem well, then the tutor will not put that type of problem in front of the student for a while. If the student has difficulty, then the tutor can help immediately, without having spent time on a diagnostic test.

SAT, ACT and College Prep

SAT-testOur proven approach to SAT, ACT and college preparation has made a significant difference in the lives of hundreds of college-bound students throughout the Houston area. Here’s our unique approach:

  • Students are assigned teachers who are specialists in specific subject areas. In addition, some teachers specialize in advanced areas, including Biology, History, Physics and foreign languages.
  • We start teaching immediately rather than first administering a diagnostic test. Students work on questions one at a time and discuss their reasoning processes with our teachers as they work, so that the teachers immediately find and correct students' weaknesses. Areas in which students need to improve is thereby accomplished without consuming additional time on separate diagnostic tests.
  • Students learn to write effective essays. Essay writing is divided into several steps, and students learn how much time to spend on each step.
  • Our teachers plan lessons designed for each student. Teaching instruction is always one-on-one – with all of our time spent on the student. Questions are addressed immediately, rather than diluted in group instruction.
  • Our teachers for the language arts part of the SAT and ACT concentrate heavily on reading strategies, vocabulary, and timed writing. Our math and science teachers show how to convert word problems into equations and logical reasoning. We practice solving the equations and completing the logical reasoning.
  • Students can vary their appointment times from week to week, and there is no need to sign a contract for an extensive number of sessions. Take only the number of sessions necessary to attain the scores necessary for admission to the university of your choice.
  • Our cost for individual tutoring is much less than individual tutoring at other companies.

Home Schooling

Educere assists students enroll in Texas Tech University's ISD (independent School District) for individual courses, or for all the courses leading to a high school diploma authorized by the Texas Education Agency. These are distance learning or correspondence classes. Some classes are online. Others are only handled through the U.S. mail. Students may complete the work for these classes entirely by themselves, or may come to Educere for whatever amount of assistance they want. Educere helps other home schooing students with whatever curriculums they have chosen themselves. Educere's standard tutoring rates apply.

Summer Programs

Elementary and middle school students are taking advantage of the summer to jump ahead. As they prepared for final exams, the students and their parents saw their weaknesses as well as their strengths. Some parents have made a check list for our tutors to cover with their children: fractions, decimals, word problems, paragraph writing and grammar.

One four year old student is learning phonics and Spanish this summer. A seventh grader is discussing her summer reading list with us and writing essays about the books. She will have an advantage when she starts school in the fall.

What would you like your child to work on this summer?
